Fire Fighters mop up a SUV fire in Phoenix, NY
PHOENIX, NY – On Thursday, 20 February 2009, 10:05 a.m. Enterprise Fire Company #1 responded to a reported truck fire on Lock Street in the village.
The first arriving chief on the scene reported heavy fire from the passenger side of the vehicle spreading quickly. The first due company, Enterprise Engine 1, arrived on scene with a single fire fighter and an engineer to find a fully involved SUV fire approximately 40 feet from a structure. No exposure problems existed.
Crews from E1 pulled a trash line and advanced on the fire while Phoenix Engine 4 came in behind to provide back up. Knock down was accomplished in about five minutes using only two firefighters and a single line at approximately 10:15 a.m.
Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, it is believed to have been caused by a short in the heater motor. When questioned about the incident, the vehicle owner advised fire fighters that the fire started shortly after she started the Dodge Durango to let it run and warm up in the driveway before leaving home.
Baldwinsville E4 (E91) responded to assist with mop up. Also responding were chief officers from Phoenix and the New York State Police. Crews were hindered by a foot of snow and unplowed roads from lake effect snows in the area.
